Saracen came to life in the late 1970, under the name of Lammergier and was one of the first bands of the so-called New Wave of British Heavy Metal. In 1980, prior to the release of their first album Heroes, Saints and Fools (1981), they changed their name to Saracen. This album still remains a cult classic for fans of heavy metal throughout the world.
Saracen gathered a loyal following in the 1980s with their inspired and sometimes progressive sounding brand of heavy metal and their excellent live shows. In 1984, they released their second full-length album, Change of Heart. Soon after that, Saracen just ceased to exist, much to the dismay to their fans.After almost two decades away from, Saracen returned in the new millennium to re-record some old favourites from their two 80s records, to record for the first time some forgotten tracks and also work on some new material. This album came to be known as Red Sky (2003) and can best be described as a mixture of heavy metal, hard rock, progressive rock and AOR. It sounds like a recipe for disaster, but Saracen made it sound absolutely sublime and effortless.
