One of those long-lost footnotes in metal history, Skrapp Mettle consisted of mostly anonymous musicians who came together to record one album of rather pedestrian rock metal, though the lyrics are at times quite over the top and certainly not to be taken at all seriously ("That Load", with its anthemic chorus of "swallow that load!" is simply hilarious). The one known quantity here is vocalist Jeff Scott Soto, who's apparently quite adept at the anonymous singing bit (he was also the "secret" vocalist in Kryst The Conqueror) as well as some serious work for guitar virtuosos Yngwie Malmsteen and Axel Rudi Pell. The one album here, Sensitive, really didn't make much noise and the band (if it was ever a band at all) quickly disappeared, never to be heard from again.

Lion Music has consistently been putting out excellent instrumental rock and metal CDs. So I was a little surprised to receive Metal Majesty's new CD 2005. The second surprise was in the fact that although Metal Majesty's roots are in Metal, this is far from a Metal CD. The opening track "We Rocked" has a distinct UFO feel.
Actually, most of the CD has a feel you have heard before. "Burying Heather" has this Beatles Eleanor Rigby string line through it, "Ready to Roar" is a Van Halen imitation, and "Love Will Make You Bleed" has a distinct 80s MTV feel to it. So is all this allusion to other artists good or bad? In the case of Metal Majesty's, it is definitely good.

Well, if the surviving members of Queen had done their homework, they would have offered the lead vocal position to Metal Majesty's Aldous Byron Valensia Clarkson instead. Ya see, Valensia (as he apparently likes to be called) is an absolute deadringer for Mercury. In fact the similarity is scary, so much so, that his existence could start rumors that Mr. Mercury never actually died. You will hear a small vocal part that is very similar to the famous "Bohemian Rhapsody" on "License To Chill" too.

Nitevigil are simply fantastic, heavily melodic - and I mean heavy, those chunky riffs have a strong thrash edge circa old Metallica, but vocally it is all very glam, giving Nitevigil a very distinctive sound, dark, slick and sickly as those massive chugs sweep the brain. Onl six tracks on offer here from these Canadian's, but this is real toothy stuff, typifying mid '80s metal despite the fact this came out toward the end of the decade.

Best Of Def Leppard (or The Best Of) is a compilation of some of Def Leppard's most popular songs, including "Pour Some Sugar On Me," "Love Bites," and "Bringin' On The Heartbreak." The album charted at #6 on the UK Albums Chart.
Best Of supplements 1995's Vault as the definitive collection of Def Leppard's work. In fact, Best Of Disc 1 is essentially Vault with the addition of "Long Long Way To Go.
A 2-CD limited edition was released in a slipcase with more obscure fan-favourite album cuts on the second disc, including tracks from more recent albums. In the UK, a cover of The Kinks' "Waterloo Sunset" was included as a bonus. This foreshadowed the band's forthcoming '70s cover album Yeah!
