Abandoning their doom and death metal affectations almost completely (and appropriately, for that matter), Lake of Tears take a more traditional metal approach on "Headstones." Released on Black Mark just a year after their debut for the label, this sophomore outing is a noticeable improvement upon Greater Art. The songwriting and recording is tighter, and in what would become a long-term trend for the group, the guttural chants of their prior release are refined, as more melodic vocals are used to create greater emphasis on repeating memorable choruses. This traditional, almost Metallica-like vocal delivery combined with more aggressive guitar work is an improvement for Lake of Tears. "Dreamdemons" is perhaps the best song on Headstones, but the material is pretty consistent throughout the recording. Far from being a must-have '90s metal offering, Headstones is a decent release from a group experiencing a much-needed musical evolution.

Masquerade In Blood might be one of their more overlooked albums, but it is not as bad as you thought it would be, because I think that this album is perhaps one of their heaviest albums but there are of course a few flaws in this album though. In 1995 Sodom released Masquerade In Blood, an album which could be a bit comparable with Slayer's God Hates Us All. This album delivers some of the bands most heaviest material yet in my opinion, with Tom Angelripper's throaty and harsh raspy vocals, his mechanical and powerful bass and the songs have rushed and fast tempos, which makes this album to be quite repetitive but yet forceful thrash attack.

Cause for Conflict may just qualify as the most confused and perplexing album of Kreator's long career -- it's certainly one of the least popular. The band's previous effort, 1992's industrial-tinged Renewal, had not been well-received by the majority of fans and critics, and its mixed fortunes also led to serious dissent within the group's ranks, culminating in the departure of bassist Rob Fioretti and drummer Jurgen "Ventor" Reil -- both of whom had been with the band almost since its inception. Reeling from this development, as well as heavy metal's general unpopularity at the time, three years would pass before Kreator main man Mille Petrozza found it in himself to make another go of it. Therefore, not only did 1995's troubled Cause for Conflict require the breaking in of a new lineup, it also found Petrozza at a creative crossroads, attempting to reconcile recent experiments with the very popular, yet more limited speed metal glories of old.

  Here is an older release from Tad Morose, the great Swedish power metal band, and my first experience to the band. At the time I was on a big "Rainbow" kick, so I picked up this CD seeing the song "Gates of Babylon" on it. I really had no prior knowledge of the band. Needless to say, its a decent cover, but just can't beat the classic sound of Rainbow and singer Ronnie James Dio. Rainbow, at least in thier earlier years, was a pretty big influence for power metal in my eyes. Just listen to the cover that Stratovarius did of "Kill the King".
Anyways, this album isn't at all like the recent releases. Its quite a different line up with only the main guitarist/brains (Krunt Andersson) and the Drummer (Peter Morén) , and the band is a LOT more progressive on this album. Songs are lengthier and generally a lot slower. This isn't something you can just pop in the player and start headbanging like with Modus Vivendi. Big Crunchy riffs are few and far between, as most songs revolve around the capable singer. There are some catchy tunes on this album, but you have to be in the mood for them that's for sure.

Memory Garden is a Swedish doom metal band I lost track of. That is no wonder. They released three albums in the late nineties, then came silence. The debut 'Tides' was their most doomy effort. 'Verdict Of Posterity' (1998) and 'Mirage' (2000) showed a few power metal influences too, ending up in traditional doom which was a bit more up tempo than usual in the genre. Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus appeared to be their huge influences, though it was obvious that Memory Garden was a seminal band, respected by press and fans.
Now Memory Garden is back: a new album, a new website, a brand new MySpace and the band has started to play gigs again. Only a new bass player joined the reborn band. Vocalist Stefan Berglund has a clean voice, perfectly fitting in traditional old school doom metal, while second guitarist puts down a solid base. We know drummer Tom Bjorn of Nightingale and guitarist Simon Johansson is famous for his ingenious guitar skills in Steel Attack and especially Abstract Algebra.
