This Lake of Tears album is heavier than the others. The music is more up tempo but still very strong, and there aren't any acoustic pieces, like with Forever Autumn and the like. The vocals aren't as clean, he growls a little, but they never reach a real death metal style, even though LoT often gets lumped in with death/doom bands.

So after SODOM had moved towards a cleaner and decidedly less Thrashier sound on their last two albums (although both were still quite good) it was only a matter of time for them to push back towards their roots. And ''Get What You Deserve'' is exactly that. SODOM returns towards a Punkier and stripped down version of their music for this release. But unfortunately, it doesn't pay off as much as they would have hoped.

This is another excellent German hard N heavy group that can be in the same league as Scorpions, Bonfire, Casanova, etc. Overall a good one and typical Teutonic hard rock.

Answer to the Master' is one of Impellitteri's finest discs, if not their very best. Rob and Chris are perfect together and continued to get better with each and every disc. Gone completely are the glammy, commercial sounds of 'Stand in Line' that were still vaguely present on 'Grin and Bear It.' This disc simply shreds from beginning to end. Many likened this disc to Yngwie, but the only real similarity is in the speed, and perhaps the style, of the lead guitar playing. Otherwise I think that Chris Impellitteri writes better songs overall. His songs are memorable, catchy yet still heavy and fast. Of course, as I said before, having Rob Rock around doesn't hurt either. The man could sing over an air raid siren and make it sound good.

After the break-up of Twisted Sister, frontman Dee Snider went on to form a band called Desperado. But when their record company backed out of releasing their debut album, just weeks prior to it's release, Dee and Marc Russell (bass) went on to form Widowmaker with guitar wizard Al Pitrelli (Megadeth, Savatage) and ex-Twisted Sister drummer Joe Franco. Widowmaker is the natural follow up to what Dee was doing with Twisted Sister and Desperado. And several of the songs here were written for the latter bands first album that Elektra dumped. Widowmaker also have this southern country and/or blues feel in many of their tunes, which is sort of weird coming from a New York band. But any hard rock and/or metal Dee sees fit to present us seems to go straight to this fans heart. So I find this album as pleasing as most of his prior work. Dee is a solid singer, a terrific songwriter and an excellent frontman. Combined with a great band to back him up, and he is indestructible. 'Blood And Bullets' is yet another fine product from one of the originals of the metal world.

The production on Life, Death... is vastly different than its predecessor. The overall landscape is grating, less polished than Rhymes of Lunacy. I actually don't mind that. The song material seems to call for it. But the snare drum sounds like Snowy is hitting a piece of cardboard rather than an actual snare drum. Wead's guitar work sits right where it should be, devastatingly crunchy and hovering right above the bass & bass drums, which are also placed well in the mix.

After the short lived 1992 Dio reunion which resulted in the excellent album Dehumanizer, Sabbath returns with vocalist Tony Martin like the Dio reunion gig never happened after the album TYR.
Sabbath also drops the ultra heavy doomy sound from Dehumanizer and returns to more of the tradition sound that was found on the Martin albums of the past. Still Cross Purposes sounds a tad different from those albums as it doesn't have the full blown keyboard effect. Even though it doesn't quit sound the same I still feel that this would have been the natural progression of the band even if Dehumanizer never happened. It was the early 90's and Sabbath modernized their sound nicely for that era with Cross Purposes

Joey Vera's name is synonymous with metal...Armored Saint, Anthrax, Fates Warning, just to name some bands this bass player is associated with on record or on stage. Joey basically wrote this music when Armored Saint dissolved after John Bush departed for Anthrax. Don't expect music in the same vain as those aforementioned bands. This is a solo record, and with open ears and with no expectations it's a pleasant surprise, chocked with rock, acoustic numbers, ballads (WTF?), all of which add up to good songs. John Bush lends his vocals to Replacing You, which is great, and Joey handles all vocals and pretty much all the instruments.
