Metal Killers II, slips 12 tracks onto your turntable. “Evil Needs Candy Too” is a celebration of melodic indulgence and reminiscence of all things 80s at a much faster tempo, including the famous imagery of 80s horror icons such as Freddy, Jason, Stripe and Pennywise on the album cover preparing to consume some sugary goodies, with the evil girl from “The Ring” along as a token present day character to remind us what year it is. It has all the charm of the solid album that Helloween never got around to releasing with Michael Kiske after the “Keepers” series, featuring a vocalist in Alessandro Conti who sounds remarkably similar to said former Helloween vocalist, save a bit thinner and lighter in timbre. The loudness factor is a bit more indicative of present day practices, though the guitar sound has a similar crunch and drive to the stereotypical 80s distorted character, and the general mood is bouncy and fun-loving to boot.

Fortunately, these guys are keen songwriters and guitarist Marco Valerio Zangani is one talented bastard, so all the bullshit clouding my vision dissipates with time. "Anger Storm" is a good opener and is certainly a catalyst to this "declouding." It's epic, allows vocalist D.C. Cooper (Silent Force) to stretch his voice just enough to know he has some respectable pipes and even utilizes some tasteful keyboard solos.

The sound here is easily described as late-80s thrash fitted to a modern sound. Indeed, Thornclad would have fit in very well back in, say, 1987 with their sound being a mix of numerous bands like Destruction, Dark Angel, and just about all the other usual suspects. Vocalist Viktor Klint sounds remarkably like an Arise/Chaos-era Max Cavalera with better pronunciation – angry and shouting yet slightly restrained, skipping the growling and shrieking that some thrash singers like to pull out every now and then.
