Nightwing, which featured future GTR vocalist Max Bacon, was one of the more overlooked bands of the British hard rock scene in the early 1980's. Despite the utterly metal cover artwork, Nightwing's 1982 album Black Summer finds the band moving solidly into keyboard-driven melodic hard rock territory, albeit with a darker edge. It's a heavy album, with a somewhat more sinister overall feel than most melodic rock albums from that era, and has a sound that channels elements of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Magnum, Kansas, Rainbow, and Axe. Even though the band included a prominent use of keyboards, Black Summer was an undeniably heavy rock album that is not too far removed from what the metal bands of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) were releasing at the time.

Nightwing is a British Rock band, originally formed in 1978 as "Gordon and Friends" by bassist Gordon Rowley (formerly of Strife) and keyboardist Kenny Newton. Their first release was 1981's Something In The Air on the Ovation Recordslabel and featured three drummers before the band reduced its numbers for the follow-up album Black Summer. The band quickly gained a following in Europe.

Nightwing were unfortunately one of the "lesser" known bands of the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) scene, and indeed, probably weren't even considered as a rightful member of the movement as they tended to veer in a more progressive/hard rock keyboard orientated direction, much the same as Magnum, Pendragon, Pallas and others, although they could certainly rock with the best of them.

After the demise of UK band Strife in 1978, bass player/vocalist Gordon Rowley formed Nightwing, with Alec Johnson (guitar), Eric Percival (guitar), Kenny Newton (keyboards) and Steve Bartley (drums). They debuted in 1980 with Something In The Air, a grandiose AOR album in the style of Styx, Kansas or Journey. Percival quit shortly after its release, and the band continued as a four-piece to record Black Summer. This moved towards a more metallic style, in keeping with the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, which was in full swing at the time. The band expanded once more to a five-piece with the arrival of vocalist Max Bacon for the rawer Stand Up And Be Counted. Bacon’s stay was short-lived as he moved on to Bronz, with Johnson also breaking ranks soon afterwards. Dave Evans and Glynn Porrino were swiftly recruited to fill in on vocals and guitar, but their compositional abilities failed to match those of Johnson.

It seems that Angeles del Infierno keeps adapting to the times and are doing it pretty well. For all those Latinos out there, they will recognize the old mariachi classic "El Rey" turned into metal. I really like the song Cae La Noche. The two balads; Sentimiento de Amor, and Yo Se Que Tu Estas Aqui are great.

Early 80's spanish metal of the best kind. Dual lead guitars with a slight resemblance of the Tipton/Downing (Judas Priest) dueling guitarwork.Man these people do get enthusiastic on the volume pedal during solos !!! Very accomplished musicianship and excellent sound,only complaint being the 4 first tracks have less treble on the left channel,from there on it kicks off like a nitroturbocharged bulldozer,and the singer apparently sung directly into the mike (without the screen filter) sounding like he were spitting razor blades.There are a couple of KILLER power ballads that can easily put those of Scorpions to shame efforlessly.

This band is very good compared to most Latin "Rock" bands. Most Latin "Rock" bands tend to be poppy and not really rock - they are just labeled that way. This band, however, is very good. Sure, there are some pop songs on here, but most songs have an 80's metal feel, which is very rare in today's music scene.

Recorded back in 1997 – and re-released ten years later with a trio of rusty demos – The Fourth Judgement is by no means an earlier Thane to the Throne, nor does it want to be. It's epic, sure, but nowhere near as Power Metal orientated as the aforementioned classic, focusing more on cool, catchy, trad metal riffs and big sing along choruses with a very strong Maiden vibe – just check out the slick, harmony-led "Tyranny". The album was born out of noncommittal jam sessions back in the day, and somehow that ‘live' feel has been captured with the production, their first collaboration with Iced Earth favorite Jim Morris, making this Jag Panzer's most fun sounding album to date. True, some of the tracks, namely "Ready to Strike" and "Call of the Wild", are far from the band's best work, but others such as "Black", "Future Shock" and the re-recording of Chain of Command highlight "Shadow Thief" make this worth the admission price alone.

It is obvious that the band does not care about any trends at all, but just does what they like to, because this music comes from the heart. The choice of the bandhymn of Eighties-legend MEDIEVAL STEEL alone is proof enough for this, most of you will not even know the name. Musically they go without any superfluous decoration, they do not try to differ by out-of-the-ordinary elements, but they just do pure Metal.

Sure, the guys do not really offer us anything new or even innovations, but the songs have a lot of heart and soul, so much is for sure. And bands that make music for the music’s sake and do it all with full conviction are worth gold. Superfluous to say that EMERALD are one of these bands, isn’t it? The guys still are not big technicians, but in the frame of their possibilities rock away that it is bliss to listen to their songs.

Bands such as this are rarely, if ever, taken seriously and many would say for good reason. EMERALD don’t stretch the Metal envelope much passed 1985 and their sound is entrenched in those they obviously have been influenced by. Step up IRON MAIDEN, MANOWAR; ACCEPT, JUDAS PRIEST, DIO etc, etc to the plate.
